A relatively recent development, the advanced Venski class of frigates is the only such type of ship currently in service in the DMDF. Originally designed as RAE picket ships, these ships were eventually up-armed and armored to serve both as RAE ships and capable light combat vessels. In a potential combat situation, these ships would be deployed on the edge of the battlegroup, tracking movements of enemy aircraft with their excellent RAE equipment and warding off any potential submarines. If attacked, this small (comparatively speaking) craft would be more than capable of defending itself with its myriad of armament. Compared to the Freeman and Jackson class destroyers, which would be tasked to engage enemy capital ships, the Venski class vessels would be tasked with the spotting and elimination of enemy submarines and aircraft: both of which pose a severe threat to the larger, slower ships of the DMDF fleet.
Only the flagship of this class is named, the rest of the ships are merely designated with a simple letter-number combination (i.e. F-14, F-97, etc).
