Awesome!-Jeff (Etruria)

Thanks! Most of the credit goes to the Democracy Index page on Wikipedia, and the Freedom House rankings also on the Big Wiki. -- Kevin (Lindos)

Not sure how it works. Do you add up each category, then average the score? Or do you just add or subtract based on what applies? Since folks have fractional numbers I assume you do some averaging.-Jeff (Etruria)

No, there's no math involved. The categories are just +/- to give you an idea of the kinds of things that push the numbers up or down. (The fractional numbers are just made up in my case). With some imagination you may be able to make real world comparisons, but that's admittedly harder with Etruria because of its unique society and political system. The lowest possible number is 0. Etruria is probably not more totalitarian than North Korea, which at 0.86 is at the bottom of The Economist's Democracy Index. My own guess -- take it or leave it -- is that Etruria would be at least between 1 and 1.5, or maybe higher. There are, after all, "democratic prefectures" at the sub-provincial level, right? And would there also be some civil liberties? -- Kevin (Lindos)

That is right. Etruria is not as bad as North Korea. I'll go with a 1.5. - Jeff (Etruria)

We are one big totalitarian/authoritarian family! Even democracy doesn't seem that free, at times.

Is there maybe some anti-totalitarian and authoritarian organization. Politics in Aurora is definatly different from the real world. Any nation, that is free, want to be the headquarters of such a non-government organization? I don't know about a name though... Collin

It is interesting that democracy seems to be the exception to the rule in Aurora. There are not too many healthy democracies to host such an organization. - Jeff

Any interest in adding links to articles on national freedoms? Samthuma's got one but there's little point in adding a column if other folks don't want to do detailed articles. If you've got a subheading within one of your main national articles, that would do. -- Jake
