Foreign Relations of Ardea

The Foreign relations of Ardea emphasize peace, prosperity, and respect for the sovereignty of other nations. The Foreign Ministry maintains embassies in virtually all of Aurora's capital cities, and strives especially to remove obstacles from overseas trade. It also strives to make Ardea's unique voice heard on the international stage, where for too long the country has been perceived as little more than an adjunct of Antaran interests.

Indigenous Peoples

The semi-autonomous Protectorates of Mbambo-Weka and Izulwa conduct all relations with other countries through Ardea’ Foreign Ministry. The liaison in charge of the Indigenous Portfolio within the Ministry is currently Andalwa Rorke, a district chieftain of the Isiluzu tribe.

Antara

Ardea enjoys a healthy relationship with its former colonial ruler. The Dominion is Ardea’s largest trading partner and a traditional ally, providing the lion’s share of Ardean security technology. As Ardean-based industries begin to produce indigenous military hardware, this aspect of the relationship is changing, though the advice of Antaran strategic and technical experts is still highly valued.

Despite considerable cultural and economic ties, the Ardean government has in the last five years begun to distance itself from Antaran foreign policy, as rumours have circulated concerning possible Antaran involvement in several sordid foreign interventions. Allegations of questionable associations with agents of Communalism, though unsubstantiated, are having a distinct cooling effect on Ardeans’ popular perception of the superpower and its Praetor.

Catai

The Commonwealth of Catai represents the closest and most accessible mass-market for Ardean goods, and ties between the two countries are strong. Continuing tensions between Catai and Kantonia have precluded the mutually beneficial alliance which Ardea otherwise favours; as a result the Ardean government, out of respect for the Kantonian people, prudently abstains from such gestures as joint naval exercises with Catai in the interests of avoiding potentially provocative situations. Nevertheless, Ardea maintains a friendly attitude towards Catai and sees potential for increased economic interaction in the future.

Kantonia

The Ardean government currently regards Kantonia with moderate concern, as that country’s relatively young democracy struggles to develop in the face of destabilizing terrorist attacks in Anku. Although Ardea generally supports Kantonian republicanism, it has not taken sides in the dispute between Kantonia and Catai over the status of Anku, and prefers to keep trade links open with both.

Karsos

The Karsos Objective Republic boasts an excellent trading relationship with Ardea, and though most Ardeans regard the nation's emphasis on the philosophy of "moral self-interest" and Objectivism with some distaste, they are nevertheless keen to enjoy the high-quality, inexpensive consumer goods afforded by that country's energetic brand of stockism and trademark efficiency. More than one Ardean Finance Minister has been known to employ private Karsosian consultancy agencies as advisers during periods of budgetary reform.

Pravnicka

Although Ardea maintains an embassy in Pravnicka, it views the Communalist power with suspicion. Relations are minimal, and few Ardean companies choose to do business there. As the world’s most powerful proponent of Absolute Unionism, an ideology antithetical to the free-market economics practiced in Ardea, Pravnicka has traditionally been seen by Ardean governments as the global architect of a new Communalist commonwealth – and thus as a threat to free, prosperous nations throughout Aurora. Its strong leadership within CLAW has cemented this view, and the Kulturni Menit Urad (KMU) is considered the chief instrument of Communalist expansion.

Torentine

Strong trade ties characterize Ardea’s relationship with Torentine. The nations enjoy amicable exchanges of goods and tourists, and find little to disagree about, although the recent Torentine intervention in Fernandina was viewed with a measure of skepticism by many Ardean observers. Despite the fact that President Colrendis was often rumoured to find the Empress Gerta personally insufferable and there was little love lost between the two, relations between the two countries remain placid and friendly as the reign of Gallus II begins.
