Bamz Amschend is the second-largest city in the Antaran Dominion and is a major financial and industrial center on the nation's western coast. It is also the world's fourth-largest city.

Overview

Founded in ancient times as a fishing village along the plentiful Gold Coast of Oceanward, what is now the world's fourth largest city rose to prominence as a center of learning and science during the First and Second Empires. Ships from the world over funneled materials, goods and even traveling merchants here and to other major ports - Waterdeep, Suzail, Chinesti - and the import and export trade in Antara thrived.

In the Industrial Revolution it became a haven of engineering and industry, and today it is home to a prominent institution - the State Advanced Research & Science Academy (SARSA). This organization, where those who demonstrate considerable scientific or engineering acumen go after university, produces a considerable number of the men and women who work for the State Department of Engineering & Design.

Key Districts

Bamz Amschend (pronounced "bams om-shend") has several key districts, each of which is composed of key elements which give them their names. The major ones are located here.

Aspho Plaza District

At the center of Bamz Amschend is Aspho Plaza, where City Hall, the State Courthouse, and many other key buildings are located critical to city administration. The Plaza, which is home to a magnificent series of city-maintained gardens and statues in honor of famous locals, is named in honor of the first leader of the town in the 5th century BCE when the now vast metropolis was once just a fishing village.

Set atop a single great, circular structure which houses the government and social services personnel who are in the city, this area is also home to a very fine shopping complex as well as a variety of other top-class establishments. Massive, curved stairwells and specially-designed glass lifts provide access to the top level, and the lush gardens of Aspho Plaza.

Business District

A great deal of international trade and exchange takes place in this city, and as such its business district reflects the multi-national activities there. Numerous foreign firms have regional offices here and there is a branch monitoring office for the Antaran National Exchange here.

Temple District

The heart of religious activity within the city is the Temple District, where the temple and bath houses are located.

Memorial Plaza District

The soldiers - living, dead, and those fallen in battle - of Antara are honored in the Memorial Plaza, a practice mirrored in each major city of the Dominion.

Waterside District

A mixture of business and residential, the Waterside District is the profile of the city to all who fly in via the international airport as well as those who arrive by boat. Soaring towers and sprawling beaches greet the traveler, and the city's vast wealth and economic prosperity are evident in the clean, well-ordered metropolis he finds.

Military District

The I Fleet of the Classis Antara is based just outside of the city, which is also home to the sprawling Fondor-Gyndine shipyards. Also near here is the headquarters of Legio command in this region, and a legion based in the same complex.
