Afsheen Rufaan Lord Il-Raz, Ph.D. GCW KC CH, born 16 May 2091, is the current Lord President of the Supreme Court. In this role, he is the leader of the State judiciary system, and one of the key legal advisors of Praetor Rayden Belesarious. He also holds distinction as a member of the Adamantine Order, being one of the powerful and influential Adamantine Lords.

Life

Youth

Afsheen Il-Raz was born on 16 May 2091 at Sorren House to Wyte and Akhana Il-Raz. He has three siblings - an older sister and two younger brothers. A native of the Atenian Mountains which dominate Nerastarel Province, he grew up with a spirit "rooted in the mountain peaks themselves". Born into one of Antara's upper class families, young Afsheen was raised in a world of disciplined service and old world tradition. The most stringent demands were placed upon him in the realms of physical and academic achievement, and he was encouraged to reach for excellence in all things he did.

During his time at the Gorihame Elite Boy's Academy, young Afsheen demonstrated a strong acumen for both physical activity and a deep passion for the pursuit of intellectual interests, as well. He read the collected works of Vetrello Belesarious and Beyon Corono, and became very conversant on political and legal events going on throughout Antara. He was fond of a good debate and also became a very productive writer in his later schooling. After completion of his general education, Il-Raz attended the University of Nerastarel and pursued a B.S. in jurisprudence with a second in political science. He graduated from there in 2109.

Military Service

Afsheen joined the Classis Antara in 2109 after departure from university and was accepted into the Fleet after completion of basic training. He was only in the service for three months when he was approved to attend the Naval War Academy, and it would be here in 2110 that he would first meet Rayden Belesarious. While at the Academy, the two took the maritime law course together, and it would be in this atmosphere that the future Praetor would see the natural political and judicial talents of his classmate and fellow officer.
After he left the Academy, Il-Raz was attached to Second Fleet and stationed aboard the ANS Avatar, one of the magnificent Primus-class battleships. He would serve as a gunnery specialist and was attached at different times to both the gunnery control and gunnery operations sections, working almost entirely with the massive 15" main cannons that were the great warship's heaviest armament and the lynchpin of her offensive power.
Il-Raz served with distinction during this time and his ship was one of the ones sent to bombard Red Kelsh positions during the civil war there in defense of Marcal Territory. His consistent hard work and punctuality were regularly praised by his commanding officers, and he was recognized with the Order of the Knight's Cross in 2111 after his ship returned to Antaran waters. The remainder of his service was seen as part of anti-piracy patrol and fleet maneuvers in the open waters of the Abecean Ocean. He was officially made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the White Lion on 2 November 2111. He also received the addition of the oakleaves to his Order of the Knight's Cross. He departed active service on 4 November 2111 after two years and two months of service, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

In September of 2111, Il-Raz married his long-time love Arielle Jurard. As of January 2115, the couple had three children, twin sons named Arvus Tryon and Aldus Traven, and daughter Arianya Trenette.

Recent Life

Il-Raz departed the Navy to further his education and earn himself a seat on the judiciary despite his youth. His greatest passion during his later general education and military service years was to become a member of the Arbites Antara, and work in the realm of jurisprudence and legal debate. He acquired his Ph.D. in jurisprudence in December of 2112.

Head of the Supreme Court

The death of Cassio Belesarious saw his grandson Rayden rise to become Praetor on 1 July 2112. Over the course of the next week, he appointed several close associates to trusted positions of power within the Adeptus Antara and brought in several well-known men from around the Dominion to oversee other critical posts in his government. He sought to place someone young but capable into the leadership of the Court, and sent for Il-Raz, who he had maintained contact with since their time at the Naval War Academy together.
His appointment to the highest court in the Dominion as its leader was, to him, the ultimate in excellence. He presides over one of Aurora's most powerful courts, and is a very influential figure in Antaran jurisprudence. Despite his youth he has proven a considerable skill and familiarity with the subtleties of Antaran law.

Current Project

It is expected of every Lord President of the Court that he undertake at least one annual research project with relation to the jurisprudence and legal affairs fields. Thus far, Lord Il-Raz has focused his projects on countries rather than topics. He has spent his almost three years in office thus far studying the legal systems and laws of Odessa, Etruria, and Pravnicka mainly, as well as Catai and Kantonia.
