Structure

First Senatorial Circle

As mentioned previously, the men who occupy the First Senatorial Circle hold the formal title of Senator of Antara. There are approximately 24 of these men, each of whom holds one of the Prefectural seats for his home Province. They are the true power of the Senate, second only to the Praetor and Proconsul, holding the true reins of authority. Only a man of this rank and circle may chair a Senate committee.

Second Senatorial Circle

Supplementing the efforts of the twenty-four full-fledged Senators are the forty-eight men who occupy the Second Senatorial Circle. Their formal title is State Councillor, and there are two from each Prefecture of every Province. They serve as representatives of the Counties - the two smaller components of a Prefecture that together form one-half of a Province. They assist their Senator in his duties, proffer more local advice and information, and serve to give detailed representation to the people of each Prefecture. They are referred to in conversation typically as "Councillor".

Roles & Responsibilities

Those who serve as Senator for their home prefecture are chosen and nominated by the Praetor and confirmed by an acclimation vote of the assembled Order. Whenever necessary, the Senate will choose one among its ranks to serve as the next Praetor. That candidate is then approved by simple majority vote of the Adamantine Order.

Advising the Praetor

The men who sit on the Senate are responsible for providing the Praetor advice whenever he asks for it, if he so inquires. They are expected to be objective, professional, and to the point, as is the Antaran preference for all business dealings, and all political matters.

Prefectural Representation

Each Senator is expected to voice the opinions, questions, and interests of his home Prefecture to the Antaran State, most importantly to the Praetor and Council of Adamantine Lords. It is their duty to ensure that the interests of their home are maintained in Cedelphia, as it is their responsibility to be a conduit for the Praetor to maintain up-to-date awareness of each prefecture's condition, affairs, and concerns.
