Antaran Provinces

In Antara, a province is a region of the State that serves as an administrative branch of the national government. They are not autonomous, only semi-autonomous, with each provincial governor answering to the Praetor in Cedelphia through the office of the First Administrator.

The provinces of Antara are equivalant to the similar organizational units of other nations. Each province is made up of two Prefectures, each of which sends one Senator to the capital to make up the Senatorum Antara - the Antaran Senate. There are 12 provinces in the Dominion, plus the State Capital Region. Each one is led by an Adamantine who goes by the title of Moff. All twelve provincial governors assembled make up the College of Moffs, which meets once annually in Cedelphia with the Praetor and First Administrator to discuss State affairs in the provinces. The constituent Prefectures of each Province are led by men of the title of Prefect.

The Provinces of Antara are listed below. The Prefectures of said Provinces are listed beneath each.

Aspenish Provinces

In Aspenia, a province is an administrative subunit of the national government. Some retain near-exact borders of feudal-era princely domains. Others date to 200-year-back groupings of duchies into larger units. They have never been sovereign, but they did have more local control than now. Today the provincial Governors theoretically administer with delegated authority under the national executive, the President. In practice, those Governors behave much as nobility of old, except the laws they carry out do stem from a national legislature. The ten Aspenish Provinces are:

  • Arboles
  • Cabo del Dragon
  • Gran Meseta
  • Costa Azul
  • Districto Federal
  • Montblanc
  • Navarre
  • Pista del Fantasma
  • Riquezas
  • Tierra del Dios

These are not evenly sized - they vary from under 1.5 million citizens (Cabo del Dragon) to nearly 14.5 million (Costa Azul). Their size ranges from a mere 11 thousand square kilometers (the Districto Federal, around the capital city of Lusiora) to 404 thousand square kilometers (Riquezas).

Etrurian Provinces

Etruria has three devolved administrative provinces. Each province is overseen by a governor of senatorial rank, known as a Dux, appointed by the Imperator under the authority of the Senate. The Dux serves during good behavior for life. As the governor, the Dux is both the highest civil official as well as the administrative commander of the legions garrisoned within the province.

Each Dux is assisted by two assemblies. The first is a deliberative body of tribal representatives, known as the Comitia Tributa. The second is a body of military advisors, known as the Comitia Centuriata, representing the different military units within the province. This assembly is the result of an ancient tradition that developed when Etruria had many disparate military factions.

The three provinces are:

Each Province is further divided into a number of prefectures. Prefectures are centered around major cities within the province.

The eleven prefectures are:

  • Anatoli Prefecture
  • Aquitainian Prefecture
  • Arcadian Prefecture
  • Atenian Prefecture
  • Comum Prefecture
  • Laconian Prefecture
  • Marsillia Prefecture
  • Merovius Prefecture
  • Pellenatian Prefecture
  • Soma Prefecture
  • Taurican Prefecture
  • Triestian Prefecture

Bonteran Provinces

Bontera is a republic divided into five provinces, a national municipality of Bonvila, and the overseas territory of Caponova. The five provinces are:

Kantonian Provinces

In Kantonia, a province is a semi-autonomous subnational entity. Each province has its own Assembly, which only has power over the province it serves. All provinces are still subject to the rulings of the National Assembly in Zarka, which each district sends a representative to. The province of Zarka does not have its own provincial parliament, but it still sends representatives to the national Parliament.

The leader of a Kantonian provinces is called the Governor.

Each province is further divided into districts. The number of districts varies from province to province.

The provinces of Kantonia are:

Lindossëan Provinces

There are 12 provinces in Lindossë:

  • Elessia
  • Ialora
  • Setua
  • Kipos,
  • Lindos
  • Secoa
  • Anuela
  • Tophoron
  • Hepheron
  • Uciauan
  • Otokos
  • Ephalos

Each one is sovereign in its own area of jurisdiction and appoints three representatives to the House of Provinces in the federal parliament. Provincial government does not follow any prescribed pattern, and like many things in Lindossë, varies greatly from province to province. Tophoron, for example, has been governed as a principality by the same noble house since before the founding of the country, although various democratic reforms have been introduced. Most of the provinces, however, follow an elected parliamentary form of government similar to that used at the national level.

A thirteenth province, Zophos, peacefully seceeded in 2094 and is now a sovereign nation on its own.

Raipean Provinces

In Raipea, provinces are partially autonomous administrative regions. Provinces are further divided into twenty village-districts. Each provincial capital is home to a Low Council, which makes policy, in accordance with Royal law, for the entire province. Village councils nominate and elect twenty individuals to the Low Council which, in turn, elects five men to represent their province in the High Council (Raipea's top parliamentary body).

The Low Council can make and oversee laws affecting its own province, but cannot create laws that contradict those of the High Council or the Royal House.

The current borders of the provinces roughly correspond to the different historic chiefdoms that existed on the island prior to its unification.

  • Hulawao
  • Kamameʻa
  • Kapia
  • Leku
  • Taiwahu
  • Ulaiʻi

There also exist several Offshore Island Territories which are considered property of the King and receive no representation in either High or Low councils.

Wondusolander Provinces

Wondusoland is divided into four provinces and twenty-seven districts. Provinces equate roughly to one-time sovereign kingdoms then and presently named:

  • Maklombe
  • Mzogebara
  • Mlimabara
  • Mamba Nchi.
