The Munitorum Antara is the collective name for the three military arms of the Antaran Dominion. It's role is to defend the State, protect Antaran interests abroad, and further Antaran national policy. It is the world's largest and most powerful war machine.

Organization

Munitorum Centaro

The Munitorum Centaro, or Military High Command, is composed of the Praetor, Proconsul, Supreme Commander, the Chief of Military High Command, and the C-in-C of each branch of the military. It serves as the central policy authority of the Antaran military. The Praetor holds absolute command authority over the military.

The Munitorum Centaro is essentially military high command for the Antaran military. Beyond the key officials in it, it is composed of the military administration and leadership apparatus.

Legio Antara

The Legio Antara serves to protect the land assets of Antara. It is composed of a total of 48 infantry legions, 20 armored legions, 9 heavy armored legions, 12 heavy artillery brigades, 20 standard artillery brigades, and 10 army aviation (helicopter) regiments. While it could be considered a tight race to see who, between the Antarans and Odessans, has the finest weapons, the Antarans have some of the world's best tanks and weaponry.

Classis Antara

The pride of the Dominion and the heart and soul of its war machine, the Classis Antara is the service that has for centuries been the key instrument of Antaran power projection. Without doubt, the Antarans have the finest technology when it comes to naval warfare. The Classis Antara is the largest navy in world history, a record the nation has been proud to hold for nearly fourteen centuries.

Antara maintains a two-coast navy, with the western coast having two fleets and the eastern coast having two. Each fleet is composed of four battlegroups. There is also the Overseas Fleet, which is composed of ships stationed at the ports of the remaining Territorial Dependencies, mostly cruisers and destroyers, charged with primary defense.

Also part of the Navy, though it is technically a separate branch, is the Legio Classis Antara, or Antaran Marine Corps. The Corps is the pride of the Antaran "foot forces" and one of the world's finest of its kind. It specializes in air, sea, and land tactics and first-strike power projection.

The Navy also has the Coastal Artillery Service, located at key coastal locations on both of the Dominion's coasts.

The largest air force in the world is the awesome Aeolancia Antara. It's responsibilities are to defend the skies of Antara and provide ground support and coastal defense support. It is composed of 60 fighter Wings and 18 bomber Wings, each one stationed at a strategic location somewhere in Antara. Apart from the fighters is the vast armada of B-42 Harbingers that make up Strategic Air Command - that branch of Antaran air power responsible for long-range, high-prejudice air strikes.

Military Manpower

All males fit for duty must perform two years of military service beginning in the year of their 16th birthday, or they may first attend two years of college and then perform their service. Those who attend college first typically are considered for Officer Candidacy School.

Following their conscript service, they remain subject to recall as a reserve until age 55. This tradition has been in place since the middle years of the Empire itself.

Conscientious Objection

Within the Munitorum Antara, there is no such thing as a "conscientious objector". Indeed, such is against Dominion law and is subject to stiff penalties. Typically, if an Antaran man refuses to serve his two year enlistment (though this does seldom happen), he is sentenced to no less than 10 years hard labor. During wartime, anyone who "conscientiously objects" to serving in the Antaran military is executed.

Also, there are very stiff penalties for wearing any military decorations or uniforms that were not actually earned by an Antaran during the course of his regular duty term. The penalties are typically two years in prison and a 50,000 Tiber fine. Certain decorations carry stiffer penalties. For example, wearing the Order of the Knight's Cross when you had not earned it earns the impostor 5 years hard labor.

Defense Status

The Munitorum Antara operates on a readiness system known as DEFSTAT - Defense Status. Each level represents a heightened level of force readiness, intelligence and security measures, and activation of military assets kept in alert standby. The levels are -

DEFSTAT One - Maximum readiness; full war footing.
DEFSTAT Two - This refers to a further increase in force readiness to the maximum level below a full war footing. It has been declared only once in the last twenty years.
DEFSTAT Three - This refers to an increase to force readiness above normal. Communications call signs used by Dominion forces change to currently-classified call signs.
DEFSTAT Four - This refers to normal, increased intelligence and the strengthening of national security measures. Readiness in Antara remains at this level typically.
DEFSTAT Five - This is the condition used to designate normal peacetime military readiness. An upgrade in military preparedness is typically made by the Munitorum Centaro and announced by the Supreme Commander.
