Maginor Hanseph Baron Argelmach, Ph.D. GCW KC, born 22 January 2085, is one of the six Chief Engineers of the State Department of Engineering & Design. His current post is Chief of Special Projects at Olduvai Research Facility, one of the most prestigious posts in the entire SDED. In this role, he oversees numerous critical projects on behalf of the SDED and is one of Antara's top engineering specialists. He is also a member of the SDED Select Committee.

Doctor Argelmach is, despite his youth, considered one of the most brilliant minds in Antara to date, with three separate Ph.D. degrees in theoretical physics, nuclear physics, and applied mathematics. He is also a recognized authority, largely via his reputation as a theoretical physicist, for his work in cosmology and theoretical cosmology. He is also an accomplished author and researcher in the areas of statistical mechanics, quantum theory, nuclear physics, and radiology. He has also made contributions to the fields of relativistic cosmology, statistical mechanics, quantum theory, unified field physics, and geometric physics.

As one of his specialties is nuclear physics, Argelmach was assigned as the head of the now-ended Project Hammertong.

Life

Recent Life

Only two years out of the military, Argelmach found employment with Olduvai Research Facility, assigned to the Anomalous Materials Department and, later alongside that, the Theoretical Physics Department. He wrote numerous papers on his central research foci, and gradually his interests lay more and more in the transmission of energy, the absorption and deflection of energy, and the alternatives potential for new power sources. His most famous paper is now a codex of sorts for theoretical physics. Written in 2113, it was entitled Observation of Krinen-Onatell-Enduren Entanglement on Supraquantum Structures by Induction Through Nonlinear Transuranic Crystal of Extremely Long Wavelength (ELW) Pulse from Mode-Locked Source Array, it speaks at great lengths about the possibilities of matter and energy transmission through dense materials. Two years later, while working on Project Hammertong, Doctor Argelmach penned his second, and equally famous, paper - Theories of General Relativity. A year later, working with his own information and the data he had gleaned from studying the writings of NSU scientist Anton Kupchenko, Argelmach wrote his second prominent paper - The Theory of Special Relativity.

Doctor Argelmach is an intensely dedicated scientist, but is also a devoted family man, with his wife and two sons. He has been described by some of his closest friends and associates as "brilliant to an almost painful degree". Some outside of Antara have called him "Belesarious' Finest Engineer".

Chief Engineer

Argelmach had made his Engineer's Review in 2110, at the age of 25. His three areas of choice for testing were, in order of difficulty precedence - nuclear physics, theoretical physics, and thermodynamics. His scores on the three series were 98%, 97%, and 97% respectively. His scores were well into the required range, and he was promoted Master Engineer on 30 August 2110.

Shortly after celebrating his tenth year with the SDED, Argelmach was chosen for the Spherion Battery - the test put to a candidate for the SDED rank of Chief Engineer. His area of testing was nuclear physics, his primary focus. His grade on it was a 99.5%, and he was welcomed as the newest Chief Engineer in the SDED on 1 May 2112. Between his appointment and his assignment as project leader for Project Hammertong, Argelmach was involved in a specialized project at Olduvai involving radar and radar reception.

Project Hammertong

While he knew from the beginning that the many aspects of Project Hammertong would invite controversy, Argelmach considered the development of the project to be something that the State could not afford to ignore. He assigned some of the best nuclear engineers available to the work, and oversaw the project from its beginning to its official discontinuation. Under his leadership, Hammertong saw the successful achievement of the world's first sustained nuclear fission reaction, the splitting of the atom, and the development of uranium and plutonium processing and handling procedures that remain in SDED manuals despite the ultimate discontinuation of Hammertong.

When the Project came under international scrutiny, Argelmach was one of the SDED leaders who felt that the project should be toned down to its most basic levels, despite the loss of data and development that such action could lead to. It was partially on his advice that Praetor Belesarious ultimately ordered Aspects Alpha and Beta shut down and their fuel locked away. During the Etrurian inspection of Olduvai's Gamma Complex laboratories where Hammertong was being conducted, Argelmach maintained his distance from the touring party, claiming that he was more productively engaged overseeing the final shutdown protocols and the removal of the fuel rods and their disposal. He later privately admitted that he didn't want to have to be face-to-face with the people who forced the shutdown of a project he had become very fond of and deeply involved in.

Post-Hammertong

With the discontinuation of Hammertong on 31 Janaury, Doctor Argelmach turned his attention back to that part of the Gamma Complex that is unquestionably his realm - the Manufactory. This vast chamber is a laboratory home to no less than a half dozen different projects in various stages of development that he is either directly overseeing or is supervising the engineers who are in charge of them. In one way or another he has a hand in each project, and he occupies his time with regularly putting his head together with those of the development teams of each respective project and offering his thoughts and input. Two of the projects currently active in the Manufactory are his personal ones, and like Hammertong are high-security projects that the State has an interest in.

At present, Doctor Argelmach is reportedly devoting most of his time to two projects that are known only by name - Project Netherwing and Project Numidium. Both projects are classified Security Five, and the State has ordered Code Black - security forces at Olduvai can shoot and kill on sight anyone they do not readily recognize or know to be part of the project teams.

Trivia

• His paternal grandfather is Rubeus Argelmach, whose research earned the term "Mach speed" named in his honor. Rubeus was an SDED Chief Engineer for thirty-nine years before he retired from the Department in 2111.

• His father Remus Argelmach is also an employee of the SDED, and has worked with the Million Tonkata Highway for the last three years. He enjoys joking about the fact his son is a higher engineer rank than he. Remus holds the rank of SDED Master Engineer.

• His mother Arabella Argelmach is a geneticist with the State Department of Disease Control, is involved in a very special project known as Project Helix, which aims to develop a more expanded understanding of DNA, its structure, and its connection to all life.
