The Democratic Republican Insurrectionist Communication Brigade, callsign DemRepubInsCom, is a usually-AM-band pirate radio (underground) broadcast produced by the leading rebel group in the country of Sinoptikon. To limit how often their operation gets obliterated by the Sinoptik government (four times, just in 2114), they seldom transmit from the same location twice in a row. They also routinely announce their location as somewhere other than the real source of the broadcasts. Sometimes the station uses true clear-channel many-thousand-watt equipment, other times the distortion level seems to indicate overamplified civil-communication radios.

The Sinoptik catchphrase of "as reliable as DemRepub radio" has different meanings depending on which side of the conflict there one is on. To the DemRepubs, the phrase is in earnest, since it does broadcast from somewhere almost every evening, and the events it reports are more reliable than official Sinoptik reports. Its Sinoptik detractors use the phrase in scorn, based on such bylines as "This is Janos Miletus, speaking from the steps outside Government House in Prynippia."
