An island is any piece of land that is completely surrounded by water. Islands may be very small, or very large. Islands of all sizes can be inhabitated, and countries that are located on islands are referred to as island nations. Continents of course are also surrounded by water. By definition the smallest continent is Miotus - all smaller bodies of land are islands.
