Overview
Anahuac is a self-governing state recently formed from the indigenously populated highlands of Fernandina. It is located in the center of eastern Lusitierra and is bounded on the south by Fernandina, on the northwest by Odessa and on the northeast by the Torentine Empire. Jagged peaks crown high steppes accentuating the rugged beauty of this region that is rich with tribal heritage. The majority of the 3.8 million inhabitants are native Lusitierrans of either Zapalatec, Tocitec or mixed Aspenish descent.
Independence & Protectoracy
The state was granted special autonomous status by President Curro in 2116 after centuries of unwelcome Aspenish and then Fernandinan rule. This decision was later repealed by the Fernandinan parlaiment prompting the High Council of Anahuac to accept the favorable terms of Amical Protectorate status extended by the Torentine Empire. Anahuac maintains Jan. 1, 2118 as it's official independence day as laid out by the broken Tribal Cession Agreement of 2116.
Government & Politics
While Anahuac’s government is still in it’s infancy, it has been established that the state will be divided into two Chiefdoms, each with it’s own tribal administration. This division will allow each tribe the freedom to observe cultural subtleties while functioning under a concurrent set of national guidelines. While it is too early to say where the state’s policies will fall on the world stage or what nations it’s leaders will aspire to align with, it's recent status as Protectorate of the Torentine Empire will likely have significant influence on the nation's future.
The Department of Cultural Preservation (DCP) was one of the first divisions set up by the new government. This division is responsible for historic preservation by designating sacred areas, procuring artifacts and chronicling tribal histories. The protectorate agreement allows access to a large section of Torentine's Helix Imperial Park which will allow DCP workers as well as all citizens of Anahuac the chance to legally visit sacred and ancient tribal sites for the first time in 70 years.
