The Vaardu Nokorsze Canal is one of Haromszek's three major waterworks. Built in 1388 as a narrowboat canal to connect

Lake Bajostat and the Jakobrieka system with the Villemrieka to the south, it was upgraded in the 1430's to handle all but the largest oceangoing ships. The divide between the two watersheds is hilly but not extreme. Five locks totalling twenty-one meters' rise suffice to reach the canal's summit from Bajostat, while sixteen locks totalling seventy-four meters drop it down to the Villemrieka.

The Vaardu Nokorsze is operated by the Haromszeki Canal Board. This body is not a Confed govermnent agency, but a multinational cooperative created to maximize the use of and revenues from the Vaardu Nokorsze, the Szidvarset, and the Killenridges. The Haromszeki Rail Union has a small minority position on the Board -- it controls outright thousands of kilometers of canals across the Confederation, but not these three.
