Telekom AG is the national telecommunications service in Schwerdt. Although the system has been in existence since 1397, the company was formed in 1512 when the government privatized the service.

Key Business Sectors

Initially formed to install, operate, and maintain the fixed national telephony system, Telekom stays at the leading edge of communications technology. To this end, the company is at the forefront of wireless communications, particulary with cellular telephones and the new wireless computer network hubs, which Telekom calls "Y-Net"™.

Beside traditional telephone service, Telekom considers business data and communications a mainstay. In addition, Telekom is the largest SSP (scandianet service provider) in Schwerdt.

In order to best serve its core business operations, Telekom is organized into four business units:

  • T-Com—fixed-line telecommunications network and services
  • T-Mobile—mobile communications
  • T-Online—scandianet service provider
  • T-Systems—business data systems, network, and services

Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures

As one of Scandia's leading telecommunications firms, Telekom is involved in a number of ventures around Scandia. Some enterprises operate as subsidiaries, including:

  • Telekom Haven Ltd—telecommunications services in the Protectorate of Haven
  • T-Sat GmbH—satellite telecommunications network and services

Sometimes it is beneficial to work with other companies to leverage Telekom's technologies along with the particular expertise of the other firm. Such joint venture companies, in which the principles share management and ownership, include:

  • Sig Telekom KGaA (with Sig Electronics)
  • TransCom Ltd (with TodtBau KG and Schwerdtesbahn AG)
