The Social-Democratic Party of Kassaten is a major leftist party in Kassaten, mainly drawing its support from the larger cities of the country, like Maxburg and Linberg.

History

Founded in the early years of the Second Republic, the SDP was one of the two leading movements (together with the Liberal Party) allied in the Fourth Republic during the Kassatic Civil War. In the Fifth Republic, the SDP was in government until the death of party leader Gerard Biesterveldt (1532) after which it suffered major losses to the GHF.

Ideology

Although the party has its roots in the workers movement, it has in later years adopted a more reformist version of socialism, stressing the gradual evolution to a fair society in a democratic state. They have been criticized for their moderate policy by the Collectivist Party and the GHF. The latter one proved the larger threat to the social-democrats, as it overtook their position as the leading party of the left in 1532.
