Sapmi, officialy the Federation of Sapmi, is a country in central Niveria. It is on the coast of Lake Niveria and borders Vetlanda to the North, Cruiswieck to the North-East, Haromszek to the South and Riechstadt to the South-East.

History

1513 June Prime Minister Milos Gönczy ended months of speculation by announcing that he would step down as leader upon the selection of a successor, and would not run for a fourth term.

1510 President Paar officially resigned his position citing his growing age and a wish to spend more time with his family. In the resulting elections, Mr. Gábriel Rachnovszki was elected president.

1507 Presidential elections were foregone as no opposition arose to President Paar standing for a second term.

1506 June National elections resulted in the victory of a second majority government for the Socialist-Green-Democrat coalition, capturing 149 out of 252 seats. This is down from 163 seats in the 1502 election.

1504 January Sápmi spearheads creation of the World Economic Organization with former Minister of International Trade Onufrij Danilenko becoming it's first Secretary General.

1502 May Free elections called following the toppling of the Communist regime and creation of a provisional government. Elections result in a coalition victory for the Socialist Labour Party, Green Party, and Democratic Party. July New constitution separating Head of State and Head of Government into offices of President and Prime Minister. October Presidential elections elect Jöszef A. Paar

1501 January Military called in to quell riots in Sáffmir. March Communist government releases 25 prisoners arrested on grounds of political dissidence follow mass strike by coal miners. July Communist leader Alexei Osztrovka resigns amid waves of protests by students, labour organizations, intelligensia and citizens. Provisional government created to aide transition to democracy.

1500 January Communists stage coup and oust the sitting Duma. Declare an end to the monarchy, ending the reign of King Janós II. March Communist government under Alexei Osztrovka declares martial law throughout much of the country following censorship protests. August Allegations of widespread government corruption result in nearly one hundred arrests across the nation. November Assassination attempt on Osztrovka only wounds the Communist boss. The shooter, Demeter Nagler, is caught and summarily executed without a trial. The military is sent to handle protests over the handing down of arbitrary justice, but refuse to open fire on the citizens. Government agrees to negotiate with opposition groups.

1497 June Duma elections bring Conservative Party government to power. Immediate programs are put into effect to cut back on government expenditures that have resulted in extensive debts.

1492 May Third mandate victory for National Labour Party granted.

1487 August Second mandate for National Labour Party.

1484 February Following the death of King Károly I, Prince Janós II ascends the throne.

1482 January Labour Party wins it's first government in history.

Modern Times

Sapmi is a small nation which has troubles with ethnicity. While the native Sapmians live in the center of the country, large Niveskian and Teuvian populations live in the North-West and South, respectively.
