History of Mordeskai

Mordeskai has had a long and troubled history fraught with civil wars, uprisings, kings, corrupt dictators, and massive internal conflict. The nation was first founded on December 20, 554 by Silas Vladmirovich Mordetski, the son of a Nevskian immigrant and a mother from an isolated native settlement. Little is known about his life, but it is common knowledge that after a long and bloody conflict between Nevskian settlers and natives, Silas united the survivors. He and his group of about 138 refugees marched southward into the foothills and constructed a small village, which was later named Mordetski. This once-small village would later become the national capital, Morvenis (After being renamed over the course of history no less than 34 times).

Mordan culture has always been strongly defined by the fine arts. Despite the presence of state controlled media, artists' creativity and works are usually not infringed upon by the state (Save for rare circumstances where a song or picture may be considered offensive or anti-government). This allows art and culture to flourish everywhere from corner pubs and art exhibitions to the grand opera halls and art museums in Morvenis and Tyeran.

Government and Politics

Mordeskai is a pure Socialist state, strongly ingrained with the political views of Mikhail Leonidovich Kovetski, who created the political philosophy of Permanent Revolution. This term refers to the possibility of Socialist revolution in other Capitalist countries, defying the old ideal of "Socialism in One Country". He believed that only the working class could accomplish the tasks of the revolution.

The nation is ruled by a Premier who is chosen out of the members of the Central Politburo, the central political policymaking and governing body of the People's Socialist Party of Mordeskai. The Premier rules for a five-year term before being suceeded by the Politburo member who is chosen (Usually the former premier's second-in-command).

The Mordan Congress (Officially the Mordan Congress of Workers)is the supreme legislature in Mordeskai. It is composed of local Socialist leaders from the various cities and townships who are "verified" in a single party election. It has 750 deputies currently serving.

The Constitution of Mordeskai allows freedom of religion, but allows supression of dangerous and radical religious movements (After the most recent ratifying of the constitution).

So far, the population of Mordeskai is 15% Atheisst, 20% Iudean, 30% Mordan Crusian, 10% Mounist, and 25% other (This includes other denominations of Crusianism and Iudeanism, plus foreign religions from neighboring nations)
