National Flag

FlagDateUseDescription
border 807 - present National Flag of Valania
The national flag of Valania is extremely ancient, having been created by Gaius Pontifex as the flag of the Theocracy. It was not replaced following the creation of the Democratic Republic of Valania. Blue and gold were the imperial colours of the Valanian Empire, while the black represents the mourning for those who had recently died in the Wars of Religion. The golden laurel wreath symbolises the glory of Valania as a whole.

Territorial Flags

These are the flags of Valania's former domains.

Flag Date Use Description
border 26 - 225 Flag of Drexius This was the flag of Valania's colony of Drexius on the Knabian Peninsula. The purple represents the dye that made the territory so rich.
border 665 - 805 Flag of Maakos The Kingdom of Maakos ruled much of central Valanan until the rise of Gaius Pontifex, when Maakos fought on the side of the Theocracy and was later subsumed into it.
border 1400 - 1499 Flag of Civitas The flag of Civitas has been the basis for the nations that formed there after Valania left, notably Schwerdt.
border 801 - present Flag of Taereoca Taereoca has always been considered Valania's poorest province, and the smaller than usual wreath on the flag represents this. The red symbolises the blood that has been shed by the poverty-stricken settlers; the blue, the sky to which the mountainous province is so close. This flag continued to be used even after Taereoca's independence.

Municipal Flags

Flag Date Use Description
border 541 - present Flag of Valans This was originally the flag of Valansia, the last remnant of the Valanian Empire, but after the Theocracy's rise it became the flag of the city of Valans alone. In 1536, the flag's symbol was officially adopted as Valania's national seal.
border 808 - present Flag of Jalarel (central Jalarel) Jalarel is Valania's second city, and its flag recognises its Iudean heritage. However, many Iudeans are upset that their symbol (the Star of Yawwah) is second in importance to the Valanian wreath on this flag.
border c.300 - present Flag of Jalarel (Zuid-Jaalre) This is the Iudean form of the flag of Jalarel. Flying or making this flag is illegal in Valania. However, it is commonly flown in Zuid-Jaalre, which is outside Valanian control.
