The Democratic League was an organisation campaigning for an end to theocratic rule in Valania. It finally achieved its goal in 1535, and is now the chief party in the Senate of the Democratic Republic of Valania.
Previous History
The League organised a miners' protest in 1531. This was crushed by helicopter strikes.
Radical elements of the League were implicated in the attempted rebellion in Reluriaa. This signalled a change in direction towards more violent demonstrations, some bordering on sedition. In early 1535 they organised a series of riots in every major Valanian city. They then succeeded in taking the Patriarch hostage, gaining significantly greater popularity in the eyes of the people. This event led to civil war, and finally to the overthrow of the government. As leaders of the revolution, members of the Democratic League were the prime movers behind the creation of a republic.
