There will always be a number of territories on Scandia which are not under the control of any particular person. Sometimes players, due to various reasons need to leave the game. A lack of time is most common. When this occurs, the territory that they controlled becomes available for an incoming player to assume control of.
The map below shows territories which are currently in this state, or one similar to it. Each territory is color coded according to the following scheme: Brown means that the territory is unavailable, either being controlled by a current player or reserved for a player currently preparing to enter. Turquoise means that a territory is under the control of a player, but part or all of that territory may be available to new players by negotiation with the player concerned, or that a territory is not under a player's control but requires further negotiation with the PlanetMaster. Green means the territory is raw and undefined. Consider the neighbors' cultures when devising yours but you're not bound by them. Yellow means either that the territory is a nation left vacant by a departing player, or that it is territory that has not been controlled by a player but has a number of things already defined about it. Also note that each available has a number or letter placed on or near it. Below the map is list of these numbers and letters with a brief description of the corresponding territory.
The names of territories may change, the old ones just serve to indicate which particular bit is under discussion.

I'll leave the descriptions in here, but they aren't at all binding. And don't feel obligated to take all of one of these territories - some Scandia-1 nations were huge.
Territory A
This territory consists of a number of small islands in the Cisteuvian Ocean. There are
three groups of islands, as marked on the map. Some of the islands in these groups are
labelled part of the Nordafsudic Union. Others were Limor's (Murutali)
or the United Cadenas' (those around Colonsay). All are available territory. Players
may choose to take only some of the islands if they wish. Consider the character
of all the islands as undefined at present. See this detail

Territory 2: Siou Republic

Territory 5: The Nordafsudic Union
I'll list a few random specializations or points of interest. All had a strong major
on politics :-).
5a - the several parts of the NU - the largest NU territorial chunk. - see
this
(first) map. The components are Eire and Alba (bracketing the
separate already-being-played republic of Strathclyde), the Jerrais, Appalachian, and
Shetlandt Islands (ofshore of Gaelyca), the Angle and Patois
Islands, and Derry. This non-GC NU set occupies the northern tip of the Teuvian
subcontinent, with Bhedulia just to the south.
5x - The Gailick Commonwealth is led by Ellan Vannin, the city-kingdom
at the northwest tip of Teuvia, adjoining Alba and Eire.
Other Nordafsudic / Cymraeg bits are associated with island groups A and B. For the

5p - the former Cymraeg posessions of Llantsilio and Pontygogo are tiny enclaves on
the otherwise unclaimed island B. Mind you, it would be fine to forget the enclaves
and just claim all of the island for a new nation.
5h - mid-Cisteuvian lies tiny Ramsay Island, next to an unclaimed "island A" and
L&L's Murutali. Fishing; *very* tiny democracy.
5i - amid the UC's Scattered Isles Cadena is the island group of Colonsay. Sheep,
fish, scenery - a tiny democracy.
5j - the NU's sole Vendan member was the city-state of Darussalem. This native-Vendan/mounist
sultanate borders Lacrosse-Michardie's overseas department of Talequoi, the Siou Republic,
and unorganized former-CRV territory. Oil and business.
Territory 15 - the Tavat Union
The TU borders Rossijskaja ("Itza" on the Tavat map) and Pochata.
Territory 20: Breizh
Territory 21: Cumbruca
Territory 22: Kernow
